Exploring Robots (Pro Bot Rally)

Pro-Bot is a mobile programmable robot that is proving to be hugely successful in the classroom. Pro-Bot is a great introduction into the world of programming and the language of robotics. Using a keypad on the outside of the robot students can write programs and see them in action immediately. By identifying a sequence of steps students can easily convert them into a step by step program that Pro-Bot will follow.

The incursion has students using Pro-Bot models to firstly learn about basic programming and then complete fun and engaging tasks. Pro-Bot can be set to draw a line where ever he moves and many of the challenges involve this feature. Drawing different shapes or tracing patterns are two simple ideas that can require inventive solutions. Especially when considerations such as the amount of steps used and the time taken are introduced.

Example Tasks

Students manually program Pro-Bot to compete in a rally. This challenges students to write a complete program that will get Pro-Bot around the course in the fastest time possible.

Other Activities

Other challenges such as navigating obstacles and estimating paths can also be programmed. These require different skill sets to complete and give students the chance to be creative in coming up with narratives and scenarios.

Advanced Challenges

More advanced program concepts such as loops (repeating instructions for a set amount of time) and functions (a high level concept that has one program stored and called upon in other programs) can also be introduced for advanced students or in follow up Pro-Bot incursions.

Suitable for:

  • year 3
  • year 4

All our incursions are compliant with the Australian Curriculum, and we are constantly seeking out new and exciting technologies and advancements to continue to be industry leaders in providing relevant and stimulating material.

    Dates & Times:

    Incursion Duration: 1.5 hour min.

Group Size: 20 (min) to 30 (max)

    More information:

Costs: All workshops are charged per student per hour and GST can be claimed back. Additional costs may apply depending on the workshop. For most incursions we travel in a motorhome and provide all the equipment, a surcharge may apply for large travel distances. This surcharge can be avoided by networking with other schools in your region and involving them so that we can stay in an area for a longer period of time. Minimum charges apply for all incursions.
